We are so excited to accomplish each of these milestones in the continuing development of the Playa Vista campus! All current plans are to be submitted simultaneously to help expedite the process. The current plans consist of the following:
Change of Use: updating the current Conditional Use Permit (CUP) from grades 6-8 to K-8
Commercial Kitchen: plans to develop a commercial kitchen space at the school
Pool Deck: plans to permit the deck space around the commercial pool
To Date
April 2023
Secured the services of an architectural company to manage the school’s construction projects, inclusive of the permitting process for the pool deck and kitchen plans alongside a CUP application.
October 2023
The architectural company assigned a new architect to our projects upon discovery that the initially assigned architect had not delivered plans to the City as originally relayed to us. As a result, progress was delayed by eight months due to the previous architect's mishandling.
December 2023
The new architects coordinated with the city inspector to discuss a newly implemented code affecting our plan submissions. An extension was requested to avoid a notice of violation.
January 2024
Inspector Andrew Beeli requested access for a site visit to further understand the project's scope.
A site inspection was conducted by Andrew Beeli, our architects, and the school owners to assess the necessary compliance measures.
March 2024
Architects received confirmation from Andrew Beeli that the Order to Comply would be officially submitted on March 15, 2024. Following the receipt of the Order to Comply (violation letter), we will have a 45-day window to submit the revised plans, ensuring we address the specified requirements comprehensively.
A surveyor was engaged to take measurements as requested by the city.
Current
Following the March 2024 survey, our architects will need approximately 2 to 3 weeks to prepare and resubmit the full set of plans. Once submitted, we anticipate receiving the first corrections within 6 to 8 weeks.
The remainder of the process is expected to take approximately 4 to 6 months for the plans to be approved.
